Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as the AOC, is a New York City representative known for her political positions and statements. The Democrat thinks it is “absolutely wild” that US officials can buy and trade popular stocks. AOC also believes it is unethical for members of Congress to own cryptocurrencies.
AOC does not hold crypto because it wants to “remain impartial”
Lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) spoke about owning Bitcoin (BTC) in a recent Instagram story she told Monday. AOC stated that it disagreed that members of Congress should own stocks and that they believed the same morals apply to digital currencies. During her Instagram story, AOC said she isn’t holding BTC because she wants to remain impartial and an unbiased lawmaker.
“Because we have access to sensitive information and upcoming guidelines, I don’t think members of Congress should stop” [or] trade individual stocks and decide not to hold any so I can be impartial on policy marking, ”insisted AOC on Instagram. “I’m expanding that to include digital assets / currencies as well (especially since I’m on the financial services committee). So the answer is no, because I want to do my job as ethically and impartially as possible, ”AOC emphasized in her Instagram story.
In 2017, AOC said it wasn’t sure about FEC laws regarding crypto
Almost four years ago, in December 2017, AOC was asked if she accepts bitcoin after she tweeted about a fundraiser this year. “Not [until] Actblue does it ”, AOC called back then. “Also, I’m not sure about FEC laws regarding crypto. Good question, ”she added. “Unfortunately, reporting this information is required by law and must also be collected when donating money,” AOC continued on Twitter. “It is unfortunate that our campaign funding laws require stricter reporting of regular small donors than Superpacs.”
Lately, AOC has sparked heated debates over their “Tax the Rich” Met Gala gown. She and her colleagues Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley tried to get President Joe Biden to elect someone other than Jerome Powell to lead the Federal Reserve. Biden ultimately chose Powell, but AOC wanted the US president to elect a Fed chairman to deal with social change and what is known as the climate crisis.
